Course Description:

This immersive one-day course is designed for developing shooters with a solid foundation in the 4 rules of firearms marksmanship for pistol & rifle, with an added emphasis on equipping the student with skills to run their own range and develop safety leadership. Every member of Bone Valley Industries must have a strong understanding of the 4 firearms safety rules and the basics of firearms marksmanship, to include basic clearing functions of multiple firearms, so that the member will be equipped with the skills and the understanding to run a safe range and supervise any future guests under their responsibility. Whether you’re a new gun owner, or a seasoned shooter, this course equips you as the member with the technical skills and procedural knowledge to shoot and supervise with confidence as a member at Bone Valley Industrie.. 

Students will learn safe handling, loading, unloading, and malfunction-clearing procedures for semi-automatic handguns, and AR-style rifles. The course focuses heavily on developing consistent marksmanship fundamentals, understanding weapons function for the semiautomatic Pistol and AR-15, and executing safe and efficient gun handling under supervision.

In addition to shooting skills, students will be introduced to range operation protocols, including how to establish a safe shooting line, enforce safety rules, provide a range brief, brief the Bone valley medical plan, manage shooters and guests, and respond to range-related incidents.

Students Will Learn To:

• Apply and enforce the four fundamental firearm safety rules
• Operate and clear malfunctions in both semi-auto handguns and AR-15 rifles
• Develop sound marksmanship principles: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, and follow-through
• Transition safely and efficiently between weapon systems
• Establish and run a cold or hot range with confidence
• Communicate range commands clearly and manage guest shooters safely
• Identify and mitigate safety violations in real-time

This course is to qualify shooters for membership. Students that require additional help on the fundamentals and are not able to grasp the concepts of the class will be recommended by an instructor to take a Bone Valley Industries PISTOL or RIFLE course, or both.

This class is not designed solely to TEST the students but instead provide potential members the tools and skills to be competent shooters and sound members at Bone Valley Industries. This course is also designed to encourage students to take additional courses with BVI and outside of BVI curriculum and develop a member who is always looking to become a better shooter and member.

No prior formal training is required.

Required Gear (Student-Supplied or Safety Gear Rental Available):

Pistol Requirements:

• Semi-automatic pistol
• 2-3 Magazines for the Pistol
• 100 rds of Pistol Ammunition MINIMUM
• Rigid belt and holster (OWB (outside the waistband/ Inside the waist band) Holster must be completely kydex (HOLSTERS that are PROHIBITED: Blackhawk SERPA, Leather, Nylon, Uncle Mikes, Fobus push button (Serpa Style)
• Magazine pouch (optional but helpful)

Rifle Requirements:

• Carbine style rifle (AR-15/ AKM  preferred)
• 2–3 magazines
• 150–200 rounds of ammunition MINIMUM
• Sling (two-point mandatory/ NO SINGLE POINT)

General Gear:

• Eye protection (ANSI-rated)
• Ear protection (electronic preferred)
• Range-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes
• Brimmed hat, sunscreen, bug spray (as needed)
• Water, snacks, lunch
• Notebook and pen
